Our national emblems

Every country of the world have a group of symbols that represent its history, these symbols are called national emblems. In Malaysia we have a flag, a coat of arms and an anthem. Also we have a national flower and a representative animal.

Our flag's name is Jalur Gemilang (Malay for "Stripes of Glory") and it's looks like USA's flag. It has fourteen horizontal stripes alternating red and white stripes. These stripes represent the states of the Federation. It has a blue union or canton in the upper left corner, this union or canton contains a  crescent and a 14-point star known as the Bintang Persekutuan (Federal Star). The crescent is the symbol of Islam and the star represent the unity of the thirteen states and the Federal Goverment. These two signs are yellow which is the colour of Their Royal Highnesses the Rulers.

Our coat of arms, or Jata Negara, consists of a shield supported by two tigers, they symbolise strength and courage.. The shield is topped by a crest consisting of a yellow crescent with a 14-pointed federal star, and includes a badge, depicted as a banner with the phrase "Unity is Strength" (Bersekutu Bertambah Mutu).

The national flower of Malaysia is the hibiscus (Rosa Sinensis) or as it is locally known the Bunga Raya. The hibiscus has been known to have many uses, mostly medicinal.

The tiger is the national animal of Malaysia. It is included in the coat of arms. Known as the Lord of the Jungle, tigers are a serious problem to people who live near to jungle.
